This blog entry was inspired my trip to the bank yesterday. It was memorable because it wasn’t too successful! A few weeks ago I lost my ATM card and it hadn’t arrived yet so the only way I could access the funds in my account was to drive all the way across town to my bank. When I arrived, I was shocked and appalled to find the doors locked and a sign on the door that said: CLOSED FOR COLUMBUS DAY! I stood there in denial reading the sign over and over as if it would change if I read it one more time! Damn Columbus, I just want my money!
Why are we celebrating Christopher Columbus anyway? What did he do that merits such recognition? When I was a child the history books said Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492 and discovered America. Really? We have to stop mis-educating and misguiding our youth. It’s tragic how they brainwash us with false information. It’s sad how they manipulate us into believing in yet another white man.
They celebrate him as if he was some kind of great American Hero and in actuality he was drunk sailor whose boat crashed in the wrong place. This fool thought he was in India somewhere. Then when he realized he was in the wrong place; him and his men murdered, beat, raped, and enslaved the people there. Took over their land and said he discovered it. What a great guy he is. He should have a day. While we at it, let’s make SADDAM HUSEIN DAY an official holiday.
HOW CAN YOU DISCOVER SOMETHING WHEN PEOPLE ALREADY ARE THERE?
I will never acknowledge this mockery of a holiday. If I ever have an employer that gives me the day off, Im going to work anyway. Even if Im the only one there. We have got to rewrite history books to tell the whole truth and not just the propaganda they want us to believe.
